Interior lighting Part I

The good lightening at home predisposes to peace and security, creates coziness and comfort. Often people make mistakes when choosing lighting units and also in their deployment and installation. Since it has mental and emotional effect on us, the quality of light is very important. Big contrast can strain eyes, but the standard lighting is monotone and boring. For the successful lighting of the house it is very important the choice of lighting types and power and placing appropriate. It is recommended that the lighting to be designed together with furniture and other decoration of the house. In fact, best this should be done at the very beginning, before putting the furniture and decorate anything. This gives the following advantages: it is easier to identify different functional areas within the premises wiring can be planned to the last detail, you can achieve the visual effect with less effort and even save money. Typically, the lighting is left for completing at the end or is considered as something completely separate from the home design. You must take into account the availability of natural light during the day and then to decide what lighting is needed.
         Lighting is most versatile element used for modeling and decorating an environment. Sunlight is also helpful if you know how to control her effects. Sunlight illuminates the home during the majority of the day, giving life into the interior and changing its intensity according to time of day or season. So we need to find the direction of entry at doors and windows and sunlight to be used at maximum, in the arrangement of interior spaces. You should consider what type of lighting is necessary ,taking into account that the lighting serves to create atmosphere . Strong lighting flows energy and encourages the work and activity pursuit. Mood lighting grants relaxing, but if overdone it may act sleepy. Excessively strong light causes people to turn away their eyes and creates physical and emotional discomfort. Stark contrasts between dark and light can create a unique atmosphere, but if it is overdone may also tired the people.

The light output can be directed to a specific area, such as the worktable. According to the method of directing its lighting is direct, indirect and mixed (diffusive).

  • In direct illumination light beam falls directly on the objective that we want to highlight. Direct lighting is economical, but is harmful for eyes because it causes glare and fatigue.
  • In indirect illumination light beam reaches the area that we want to highlight, such as incomplete coverage of the walls and ceiling of the room. The resulting light is even and soft with no dazzle. Indirect lighting is not economical.
  • Mixed (diffusive) lighting occurs when the light source (so that it not blinds), is placed in a globe of matt or opal glass. In residential buildings mixed lighting is used most in the vestibule, living rooms, etc.

Very significance for the effect of light on residential areas is the color of walls and ceilings. Dark-painted walls absorb light and reduce the effect of lighting. Vice versa, white walls and ceilings reflect a considerable part of falling light upon them.
