A follower of Bakhaus is Marcel Breuer. His chair has a wooden frame with different trim options (belt of red, blue or white fabric, toucan of horsehair or cotton). Although he rebelled against the heavy furniture trimmings, he was always trapped with the traditional materials. Then Breuer abandoned solid wood for the use of metal. He makes the first metal chair "Vasili" constructed from nickel plated cold bent, seamless tubes and thick upholstery leather. In the camp of the innovators in the modern architecture of the twentieth century, the name of Lao Corbusier ranks high. His artworks are sculpted elegant, tense, and economically. Together with his colleague Charlotte Perrin he designed a series of metal seating furniture, cabinets, shelves and tables. Seating furniture have a skeleton of polished chrome and steel pipes. Supporting part of the upholstery contains spiral springs, which lie on the soft leather cushion or mattress. Finnish architect Alvar Aalto exploit the elasticity of layered birch wood. Each of his furniture is one particular sculpture in which can be seen organic and unexpected opportunities of the tree. Finnish architect creates the majority of his furniture together with architecture and between them there is great harmony.
In the 20th century structure passes into the field of sculpture. The design of the furniture also follows this trend. New forms have sufficient resilience and do not require additional metal reinforcement. Surfaces are pure and clear with possession of great strength. Creator of curved furniture is Michael Tonet, who started his activity around 1830 he formed a specific furniture style, easily distinguishable from the rest. Especially popular are the curved chairs with a brand "Tonet" - elegant, light, stable and accessible to a wide range of users. They become the main item of what was then Austrian furniture industry. With his chairs “Tonet” makes a breakthrough because by this time we can talk about meeting the various industrial segments of the population with the same product. With its lasting elegance and pure lines, curved furniture find their place in contemporary interior.
