Special Rolex Deepsea for James Cameron

Although isn’t an official brand ambassador, James Cameron is really special figure, since Rolex created a new dive watch specially for him. The newest version of the iconic watch was launched on 4 August in New York during the US premiere of National Geographic’s Deepsea Challenge 3D documentary film in the splendid Hall of Ocean Life at the American Museum of Natural History in the presence of James Cameron and other.

The Rolex Deepsea D-Blue Dial diver watch is based on the standard Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea 116660 watch, but has a unique dial that starts blue at the top and using a gradient goes to black. “D-Blue” likely stands for “diving blue” and the color change on the dial is in reference to a very special event.

This new watch is closely based on the experimental Deepsea Challenge watch that James Cameron was wearing two years ago during his expedition into the Mariana Trench when he made a record-breaking solo dive 10,908 meters (35,787 feet) below the surface of the Pacific Ocean piloting the Deepsea Challenger submersible. The timepiece worked perfectly throughout the dive at extreme pressures, confirming Rolex’s position as the leading brand in waterproofness.
