Dumb Ways To Die's Cute, Huggable Toys

You haven't seen the last of the blood-gushing, maimed cuties from Dumb Ways to Die. In fact, you'll be seeing a lot more of the stars of last year's most celebrated campaign now that Melbourne Metro has launched its new line of plush toys.

The adorable piranha and rattlesnake victims, hair-on-fire guy, clueless commuters and more will hit store shelves first quarter of this year. Some of the cuddly characters will be small enough to fit in your pocket, while others will dwarf the average teddy bear at more than 30 inches in height. The toys will retail from $5.99 to $99.00.
Metro General Manager-Corporate Relations Leah Waymark said the idea was an afterthought, borne naturally from consumers' -- and merchandisers' -- reactions to the rail safety campaign. "We never set out for this to be a goal and it certainly didn't factor into anything around determining the creative," she said. "But countless people asked, 'Where can I get the t-shirt?' We had a lot of people who produce items approach us, from t-shirt makers to toy makers, to people who wanted to produce TV shows. But we narrowed it to what we thought would be most important, and that's the brand integrity. This was not about finding another revenue stream.

Finding a way to engage with people in different ways and keep the conversation alive was foremost."
To create the plush toys, Metro went to different licensing shows and toy trade fairs around the world and landed on California-based licensing partner Evolution Inc. and New York-based manufacturer Commonwealth Toy and Novelty, which has produced goods for other pop-culture hits such as "Angry Birds," "Duck Dynasty" and "Family Guy." Ms. Waymark said Metro is working with a number of agents around the world to distribute the toys.

The cuddly critters are not the end of the road. Metro is working with McCann Melbourne on developing more content and seeking developers for the next version of its mobile game. "Obviously, if you go down the licensing road, you'll need more content to support it," said Ms. Waymark. "We just see this as a way of keeping DWTD alive."

A Reason to Care About the Super Bowl: Haute Couture Helmets by 48 Top Fashion Designers

Normally sports aren’t exactly our cup of tea around here (have you seen our rationale for watching this year’s Super Bowl?), but when Dennis Basso designs a one-of-a-kind football helmet with a fur mohawk on top, we take note. And he’s not alone: 47 other major designers put their skills to the test in crafting haute couture helmets in honor of the upcoming Super Bowl XLVIII and amidst the NFL playoffs, adorning the head-protectors with flowers, fur, rivets, and other details.

The helmets were created by different designers, such as Diane von Fustenberg, Catherine Malandrino, Betsey Johnson, Helmut Lang, John Varvatos, Marchesa, Narciso Rodriguez, Rag & Bone, Steven Alan, and many more. You can see them all on display at the Bloomingdale’s flagship store on 59th Street. You can also step in front of a screen, where one of these unique football helmets will be digitally placed on your head for a very “fashionable” selfie. The display, as well as the online auction for the helmets, will continue until February 4th. So far the leading bid is for the helmet by Stacey Bendet for Alice & Olivia.

Bently Vooms Into Your Home!

Among the many things that Bentley Motors is proud of, is the exquisite interior that is signature to the British automaker’s luxury fleet. If you long for such lavishness outside of your automobile and have, at some point in time, even contemplated sleeping over in your Flying Spur, then there are three things you could do.

One, see a shrink and seek help in getting rid of your ‘addiction’; two, rip out the interior of your Bentley car (that would be a huge ‘ouch’, won’t it?); or three, grab yourself some Bentley furniture off the Bentley Home Collection.

developed in collaboration with Italian luxury furniture maker Luxury Living Group, the long-time British luxury automaker brings luxury from its automobile to your humble abode so you can experience the same lush treatment in the comfort of your home and with the Bentley Home Collection, the Crewe folks have what you will need for a home well covered too. showcased at the recent MAISON & OBJET fair in Paris (January 24-28, 2014), the Bentley Home Collection comprises of five individual pieces, including the MINSTER Sofa, Butterfly Sofa and Armchair, Richmond Bed, Ambassador Sideboard and a Harlow Armchair.

No word on when these masterpieces will hit the retailers, neither were the prices made known, but reassure that they won’t be your average affordable furniture.

Pininfarina & Napkin Collaborate To Create A Pen That Never Needs Ink.

We bet imagining a pen of the future is not in the order of any creative person, geek or scientist, however, the folks over at Pininfarina begs to differ – the have come up with a revolutionary pen that requires no ink and will never need to be refilled. The Italian independent car design company and coachbuilder collaborated with Napkin to boldly re-imagine this writing instrument that might just revolutionize how we write (on paper that is).

Aptly dubbed 4.EVER Pininfarina Cambiano Inkless Pen, this elegant piece of writing instrument, not surprisingly, draws its design inspiration from the firm’s Cambiano concept car, bearing elegant lines handcrafted by Italian master craftsmen from a combination of aluminum and wood. As alluring as the design is, the real magic lies in the writing technology incorporated into it.

The 4.EVER Pininfarina Cambiano Inkless Pen has a special metal alloy tip known as Ethergraph that allows precise stroke like a pencil, while leaving permanent marks that are not erasable, just like a pen that you are accustomed to. Though we are not sure how well the Ethergraph will work over the correction tape or ‘liquid paper’. The 4.EVER Pininfarina Cambiano Inkless Pen is not alone in this; it will be matched with a notebook with papers made from stone powder, which according to Pininfarina, is stronger than the traditional paper and water resistant too.

Being made from stone, the stone paper notebook will be eco-friendlier than the regular paper. The notebook is enriched by the original sketches of the Cambiano concept car.
